We did it! The BIGGEST team by far!
Sunday June 5th saw Warwicktweetup attend the Heroes Run in aid of Warwickshire & Northants Air Ambulance. We, rather rashly, decided that we would try to be the biggest team on the day. Thanks to our wonderful network of members we did it!

50 people signed up to the fun run and paid their £10 joining fee but more importantly put "Warwicktweetup" in the reason for running box...thanks to around 167ish tweets from Lord Todd stating that they must! (no pressure then?!) So £500 raised before we even got there. Add to that our just giving page which has raised to date £335 and we were well over any target we had in mind! Fabulous!
Key to our plan was to run/jog/walk in team colours and thanks to Liquid blu we did!! With help from the star guys at Acorn Printing in Coventry and sponsorship from Nina Bale at Ginger the art of Print we ran in yellow with our logo proudly splashed across our chests!
We are eternally grateful to them...we looked great in the photos!!
so how did we get here....?
We set ourselves this challenge over coffee in Warwick way back in April after the dust was barely settling from the inaugural Warwicktweetup. Myself (Lord Todd) Christie and Karen met for a secret meeting, or at least that's what twitter called it, in a coffee house in Warwick on a busy Saturday morning. Karen, who has worked with the Air Ambulance on a number of occasions, put the idea forward that we should try and be the biggest team at the Heroes Run. Karen of course knew the publicity angle and the great photo opportunity that this target would achieve. Christie and I with much trepidation agreed and Warwicktweetup 3 was born!
A few weeks ago though I found out that Karen would not be running as she would be the official photographer and in fact Christie and myself had been stitched up! We will let her off though as it turned out to be a great success and very enjoyable. I will get you back Karen....
All joking aside it was a genius idea and I have fallen in love with the Air Ambulance.

What an amazing job they do, what amazing people they are and I have met someone who has so much passion and enthusiasm that they make me look bored and lazy! Jo Payne who heads up the operation from Air Ambulances Princethorpe HQ is quite frankly an incredible woman. We will be raising for Air Ambulance where ever we can from now on as we have adopted them as our charity and Underwood Wines have hinted that they may also adopt Air Ambulance as their nominated charity.
The Heroes Run was an amazing day. Our winning team did an amazing job and by becoming the BIGGEST team and raising sponsorship individually and through our just giving page we raised just over £1150!! Incredible, add to that the money raised from the WTUQuiz in May and we have donated enough to fund a life saving mission by the Air Ambulance Helicopter! Amazing work!
The moment of the day that made us realise what we had done had to be the Heli landing on the grass beside the Start/Finish line fresh from a mission, we were helping them do that, we were making a difference to other peoples lives, we were doing something so special and magical....I'm so pleased we made that decision over coffee!!

The Heroes Run, and Tweetup's entry in it, demonstrated to me what a strong and diverse group of people we are. People from all kinds of backgrounds, doing all sorts of things for a living, came together under the Tweetup banner to raise money for this brilliant charity. Some of us plodded round, some of us jogged, and some of us (not me sadly) zoomed around.
And the run was only part of the day. We were one of the last to leave the venue, and only did so because we had to collect our daughter from a party.
All in all, I need to say 3 things:
Hurrah for Heroes Run
Hurrah for Air Ambulance
Hurrah for Warwick Tweetup
